A feature-length Bluey movie is set to hit theaters in 2027.
The film will be written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, with series stars Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack returning to voice Bluey’s mum and dad, and music created by Bluey composer Joff Bush. (The voices behind Bluey and her sister, Bingo, have long been a closely guarded secret due to privacy reasons, but given the involvement of the other principal talent, we can probably assume they’ll be involved as well).
The movie picks up after the conclusion of Bluey’s third season in April 2024 (which we named one of the best of the year). While there are currently no plans for a fourth season, several minisodes have been released over the past six months. Creator Joe Brumm had previously expressed interest in developing a feature film based on the series—and now he’s getting his chance.
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” Brumm said in a statement. “I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen.”
