Billy Strings Previews New LP 'Highway Prayers' with Initial Single and Music Video for "Leadfoot"

Billy Strings’ latest studio endeavors have been revealed. The artist announced that on September 27, he will release a new album titled Highway Prayers via Reprise Records. The early fall release will arrive after Strings’ collaborative LP, Me/And/Dad, and previous effort, 2021’s Renewal. As a preview of what’s to come, the artist shared the first single and official music video for “Leadfoot,” featuring Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman. Watch below.

The forthcoming deliverable tops out at 20 new tracks. Strings’ impending release cuts no corners as he continues to carve out an archive of original music. The set was co-produced by Jon Brion, who contributed to the set on bass, drums, and percussion, respectively. In addition to Strings’ backing band Billy Failing, Alex Hargreaves, Royal Masat, and Jarrod Walker, the LP extends with added musicianship from Nashville favorites like Jerry Douglas, Lindsay Lou, Jason Carter, Nathaniel Smith, Victor Furtado, and others, such as seasoned backbeat, Matt Chamberlain.

Directed by Ryen McPherson, the video finds Strings playing on various instruments, from banjo to bass, plus steel and Ebow electric guitar. Joined by Chamberlain on drums, the track also highlights Strings’ beloved 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle, with sounds expelling from the classic vehicle. Also included are guest appearances from Herman, Brian Haskell and Katie Sullivan.

After the official music video dropped on YouTube, Strings performed “Leadfoot” in a live setting for the first time, debuting the number at his August 2 concert at Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pa. Watch the official music video and a clip from Strings’ Friday performance below.
