Billy Strings Performs for Kids at Michigan’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital

Hometown hero Billy Strings returned to the Great Lakes State yesterday to share a very special performance with the patients at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. At the hospital where he welcomed his first child with his wife Ally–spirited away from his fourth-annual Renewal Festival on Ringo Starr’s jet to make it in time–Strings showed his gratitude by taking part in Blue Glass Studios, an in-house recording studio that produces live programming to stream on the hospital’s TV for children and their families to enjoy.
“I really wanted to come play music to distract kids from going through a rough time,” Strings expressed in a social post from DeVos Children’s recounting the star crossing. Beyond his participation in the Blue Glass Studios program, which paired him alongside two of the hospital’s music therapists, Strings traveled through the facility to meet and bring music to patients in person, performing small sets on each floor.
Strings’ children’s performances arrived in a brief break from touring following the conclusion of his Spring Tour with a three-night series at Cary, N.C.’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre from April 17-19. He’ll return to the stage on May 13 for a series with the touring Outlaw Music Festival tour, on which he’ll join Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and more for eight performances along the West Coast.
