EXCLUSIVE: Football royalty including Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy, Mike Tomlin, Urban Meyer, Roger Goodell, Sean McVay, and Tony Romo are among talking heads in new gridiron documentary The Object Of The Game.
Recently wrapped, the film is inspired by the book of the same name written by legendary high school football coach Chuck “Chico” Kyle (pictured below) in which he imparts wisdom about why the game is played. You can see a first teaser above.
The doc sees Shakespeare and Chaucer teacher Kyle wrapping up his 50th and final year at inner city Cleveland, Ohio’s Saint Ignatius High School. A humble teacher first, Kyle would sooner regale you with Macbeth and Othello quotes from memory than mention he engineered the greatest high school football dynasty the country has ever seen—winning an impressive 11 big school state championships and four national titles over a dominant 20 year span—and in the process, shaping the lives of thousands of his students and players through a philosophy he would dedicate his life to despite being offered bigger money coaching opportunities elsewhere. The film blends anecdotes, wisdom, and practical X’s and O’s from football luminaries with footage of Kyle’s emotional farewell season.
The film is being being directed and produced by Zodiac Features’ Matt Waldeck (I See You, Lovely Jackson) with Ben Hecht, Travis Killian, and Blake Williams among its executive producers.
Sales are being handled by United Talent Agency and XYZ. Funding was provided by Zodiac Holdings.
