Beyond the Gates’ Tamara Tunie Tells Stephen Colbert the One Reason She Returned to Soaps

Beyond the Gates’ (BTG) spoilers indicate that the cast of the show continues to pump up the excitement on the cusp of its debut.

BTG stars are currently on a massive press tour and the buzz around the daytime drama’s premiere is strong on social media.

Actress Tamara Tunie, who plays Anita Dupree, landed a major interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which took place on February 19.

The two talked a little bit about both their runs on the primetime show, Law & Order, as Colbert joked about the character he played.

Of course, Tunie has not only dabbled in daytime drama over the years, playing Jessica Griffin on As the World Turns from 1987 to 2009 but she’s also worked extensively in the land of primetime television.

From roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit to 24, Blue Bloods, and NYPD Blue – just to name a few – it’s interesting that she’s chosen to return to soaps for the new BTG role, after all this time.

During the Late Show interview, Colbert asked Tunie what it meant to be on BTG, considering this was the first daytime drama to debut on TV since 1999.

Tunie responded by saying, “The only show that would bring me back to daytime television was this show.”

She also stated, “It’s because it is historic in its existence.

It is the first daytime drama where the central family is African American, and an African American family of affluence, power, generational wealth, beauty, talent, and it’s breaking the color barrier.”

Tunie wrapped by telling Colbert and the Late Show audience that the soap will be a “glass-ceiling-breaking show – and I’m so proud to be a part of it”.

It’s important to note that BTG isn’t the only ground-breaking as the first soap to premiere in over 25 years, it’s also the first-ever, one-hour, Black-centric, daytime drama.

Beyond the Gates spoilers suggest that this won’t only be a trailblazing show, but from all the promos and previews, it also seems like it’ll bring on some sizzling, dramatic, and chaotic moments to keep soap fans on the edge of their seats.
