Given the popularity of Severance and the power of Apple, Ben Stiller likely has virtually unlimited resources at his disposal while making the mega-popular sci-fi thriller mystery series. That said, however, there are some things that money can’t buy, and that’s apparently getting a former President to provide a voice role for a silly cartoon.
In the season two premiere of Severance, the evil Lumon company debuts a new corporate video to the series’ heroes — Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, and Zach Cherry — that uncannily, disturbingly, and loosely summarizes the events of season one.
The video features an anthropomorphic Lumon building that’s voiced by Keanu Reeves, further adding to the bizarreness of it all (you can watch the video below, but only do so if you’re caught up to Season 2, Episode 1 of Severance — unless you don’t mind having anything spoiled, of course, then let it rip).
Prior to landing the beloved Keanu Reeves for the goofy voice role, director Ben Stiller revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he tried to get President Obama, the 44th President of the United States, to voice the role. Obama politely declined, however, claiming his schedule wouldn’t allow it.
“There was one person that I asked before [Keanu Reeves], and he said no: President Barack Obama,” Stiller told Jimmy Kimmel.
“I get an email back from President Barack Obama. ‘Hey Ben, big fan of the show, love Season 1, can’t wait for Season 2. Don’t think I have time in my schedule to make this happen,”
