Ben Stiller remains one of the most authentic celebrities on social media, as the 59-year-old actor and director is constantly engaging with fans about two of his great passions: the New York Knicks and his hit AppleTV+ Severance.
His willingness to engage with fans is so unusual in today’s social media landscape that Ben Stiller was recently asked about it during a “For Your Consideration” event — basically Hollywood’s version of a campaign rally for a project in an awards race — for season two of Severance, which has since become the most-watched series in the history of AppleTV+.
According to Stiller, he finds it “inspiring” to engage with fans about Severance — he’ll also usually troll people who diss the show — reasoning that he never had that experience when he was growing up.
“I find it, actually, really inspiring to be interacting with the audience because we never had that, my generation growing up. When somebody doesn’t like something, I’ll [still] go back and forth with them sometimes and I find that fun, too, because usually once you start talking to somebody or interacting, something positive can come out of it. It’s also kind of fun. And at the end of the day, I don’t really take it that seriously,” Stiller told Variety.

Stiller’s reasoning is actually quite empathic and consistent with his reputation in Hollywood over the last 30 years, as you’d be hard pressed to come across a negative quote or a soundbite about him from someone in the business, while also being largely beloved by movie/TV fans.
Late last this month, for example, Stiller and fellow rabid New York Knicks fan Timothee Chalamet went viral for following the Knicks to Detroit to watch their first round Eastern Conference playoff game against the Pistons like a pair of “basketball sickos” — the point being, people don’t seem to just like Stiller as a creative, but as a dude, and that goes a long way. Stiller clearly understands that with the way he engages with fans of his work.
Following the conclusion of season two of Severance, the hit Apple series was renewed for a third season. Later his year, he’s also set to appear in the film The Dink, a pickleball comedy, and will be reprising his menacing role as Hal L. in Happy Gilmore 2.
