Barry Keoghan is breaking his silence following his split from Sabrina Carpenter.
After the “Saltburn” actor deactivated his Instagram in the wake of the breakup, Keoghan posted Saturday on X, formerly called Twitter, where he said that his “name has been dragged across the internet” by people who have crossed “too many lines” harassing the actor and his family.
“I can only sit and take so much,” the “Eternals” star began his message. “I have to respond now because it’s gettin to a place where too many lines are being crossed. I deactivated my [Instagram] account because I can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work.”
Keoghan’s words came after People and Us Weekly reported last week that Keoghan and Carpenter broke up after dating for nearly a year.
The pair first sparked romance rumors after Keoghan starred in the music video for Carpenter’s song, “Please, Please, Please,” released back in June. The two appeared at the 2024 Met Gala together just a month before.
“The messages I have received no person should ever have to read them,” Keoghan said in his post on X. “Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.”
The actor was seemingly referencing the rumors that the pair split due to his infidelity, which a source close to the actor denied while speaking with People.
“He was always very faithful to her from the start, there was no third party involved in their break or at any other point in their relationship,” the insider told the outlet. “Reports indicating otherwise are entirely fabricated.”
Elsewhere in his X post, Keoghan claimed that people have been “knocking on my grannies door” and “sitting outside my baby boys house intimidating them.” The Irish actor is a dad to 2-year-old son Brando, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro.
Keoghan also condemned social media users for “dragging” his late mother into the drama by “talking about how I was a [heroin] baby.” The “Dunkirk” star has opened up in the past about his mom’s death from a heroin overdose when he was 12.
“Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for [Brando],” he said. “I want to provide opportunities for him to learn, fail and grow. I want him to be able to look up to his daddy, to have full trust in me and know I will have his back no matter what.”
“I need you to remember he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older,” he continued. “Please be respectful to all.”
Last month, Keoghan addressed critics who have accused him of being a “deadbeat dad.”
“People kind of have a judgment on me as a parent,” the “Bring Them Down” actor said during an episode of “The Louis Theroux Podcast.” “I’m like, well, until you’ve walked a day in my shoes growing up as a kid, then you can comment. … There’s a lot online. If I didn’t have tough skin or the strength I have, I wouldn’t be sitting here.”
“The more in the public I’ve become, the less I’ve posted about my child, because I don’t think it’s fair to put my child online, there’s sick people out there,” he added.
