At some point, a lot of us wanted to be a Barbie girl (or a Ken guy) in a Barbie world. From what we hear, life is fantastic there, even though things are made of plastic. And now that’s what we get to do with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, a new film starring a slate of great actors including Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, Ryan Gosling, Ncuti Gatwa, and more. We are loving all the Barbie character posters but we really love this new trailer that gives us serious “slice of life” storytelling vibes.
All the different Barbies, the Kens who are competing with each other, the clever joke about Barbie/Ken’s sexless relationship, and the general ridiculous vibes are a true winner. Interestingly, this is quite different from the first Barbie trailer we got a while back. What does this mean about the film’s tone? Who knows. What do we know about Barbie’s plot? Well, here’s a small synopsis:
To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.
Will Barbie discover that our world is absolute garbage? Maybe. Basically, just toss on some fab shades, wear bright colors, and go along for the wacky ride. Barbie hits theaters on July 21.
