It took more than 24 hours for Astronomer to release an official statement about Andy Byron, the CEO featured in the viral video from a recent Coldplay concert. Believe it or not, the press release from a fake reporter named “P. Enis” was not real.
However, this latest update from the company itself creates even more questions than answers.
If you have been living under a rock over the last few days, you missed what is perhaps the most viral moment of the decade. That is not hyperbole. The original TikTok video has been viewed more than 67 million times. Those views do not count any reposts to other platforms.
I would genuinely guess the video has been watched more than 150 million times by now. At least.
The couple caught at Coldplay isn’t a couple!
Coldplay played a show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts right outside of Boston earlier this week. The camera projecting to the big screen cut to a random couple in the crowd. Except they are probably not a couple…
Chris Martin alluded to the idea that the embarrassed man and woman might be having an affair. Internet sleuths quickly identified the man as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron. The woman appears to be Astronomer’s head of HR, Kristin Cabot, but that has yet to be confirmed. Ironic, isn’t it?
Chaos ensued on the internet.
This video went viral as soon as it first dropped. Not only was the actual video itself impossible to avoid on social media for more than 36 hours, every post that did not include the actual video seemed to revolve around the alleged affair. Jokes were everywhere. The memes were unavoidable.
I genuinely cannot remember another moment that went this viral since ‘The Dress‘ in 2015. It completely took over the internet during the dog days of summer on the slowest sports day of the year.
As information started to emerge about Byron, Cabot and Astrononomer, a fake statement posted by an account called ‘Peter Enis CBS News’ fooled a lot more people than it should’ve.

As I am sure you gathered by now, the above message from Byron was not real.
Astronomer set the record straight.
The technology company at the center of this controversy released an official statement on Friday afternoon. It was intended to clear the air on a few different things. An investigation is ongoing.
However, Astronomer actually created more questions than answers… for now.
Initial findings are limited.
First and foremost, the company did not directly confirm Byron or Cabot’s involvement. Only that it is looking into the matter. The Board of Directors will provide additional details “very shortly.”
Fine. Whatever. We all know what we saw.
With that being said, I am curious to know what “additional details” means. Is Astronomer going to drop all of the personal details about this alleged affair, its timeline, and how it came together? Or is it going to announce the ouster of its CEO and move on? Or neither!
I am going to be thoroughly disappointed if these “additional details” are a big nothing burger.
Who is the girl?!
The other interesting wrinkle to this situation involves Alyssa Stoddard. Stoddard is the “Senior Director of People” at Astronomer. She was hired to the role in January.
As soon as the Coldplay video went viral, people immediately pointed to the third girl in the video — who turns bright red when Byron and Cabot are exposed — as Stoddard. Multiple outlets ran it as truth.
As we now know, from Astronomer’s statement, that lady was actually not Alyssa Stoddard.
So who is she? Does she know Byron and Cabot? Did she know of this alleged affair? Or was she just there?
I find it hard to believe the third woman in the viral video did not know what was up based on her reaction. Her face turned a deep shade of red. But maybe she was just embarrassed by the situation.
If this is not another employee of Astronomer, please lady, share your side of the story!!
