Asmongold blames himself after streamer spends thousands on fake Pokimane relationship

Asmongold admitted he feels “guilty” about Shelbo’s treatment on OTK’s Top Streamer show “to be laughed at” after he was catfished by someone pretending to be Twitch star Pokimane.

In February 2025, Twitch streamer Shelbo went viral after claiming that he and Pokimane had been dating for four months, saying they were “engaged” and would be meeting up in person to “discuss” their future together.

“Me and Pokimane have been dating for four months now. Today is our four-month anniversary and we are definitely celebrating today,” he said in a February 26 stream. “I know she says she is single on social media, but guys, she is not single. She is taken.”

The internet instantly clocked Sherbo’s claims as a potential catfishing situation — and the incident grew so big that even top streamer Asmongold discussed the ordeal.

Asmongold feels bad about “enabling” streamer catfished by Pokimane impostor

Sherbo participated in OTK’s Top Streamer show in early 2024, and nearly a year later, Asmon says that he feels bad about “enabling” Sherbo being taken advantage of, saying he was “on the show for people to laugh at him.”

“I do kind of feel guilty for not immediately vetoing this, because it was an obvious exploitation of a vulnerable person,” he said in a March 12 live stream. “We enabled a person to be on the show who was clearly mentally unfit to a degree.

“The enthusiasm around him was like, ‘Let’s all gas up and laugh at the ****’ type of thing. I feel uncomfortable that I allowed and enabled that to happen. After seeing this happen, I’ll never do something like that again.”

Sherbo said that he had paid $500 to travel to California in the hopes of meeting Pokimane, revealing that the Poki impostor had supposedly asked him for thousands of dollars during the course of their ‘relationship.’

In fact, Sherbo said that he’d ended up homeless as a result of the ordeal, claiming he’d been “in and out of hospitals to make sure I have somewhere to sleep.”

Thus far, Pokimane herself has not commented on the situation, but Sherbo continues to post screenshots of his conversations with her impostor on his social media accounts in the meantime.

This is just one of several concerning incidents surrounding female streamers after popular broadcasters Valkyrae, Cinna, Emiru and ExtraEmily were threatened and nearly attacked by an angry viewer during an IRL stream earlier in March – around the same time Amouranth was robbed at gunpoint by three masked men.
