ARIANA Grande has spoken out about the backlash she received over her romance with her Wicked co-star, Ethan Slater.
News broke that Ariana, 30, and Ethan, 31, were an item in September 2023, around the same time they filed for divorce from their spouses.
The Thank You, Next singer was married to real estate mogul Dalton Gomez, 28, and Ethan to his longtime partner Lilly Jay, 29.
Rumors quickly circulated that the couple had a secret affair, which Ariana addressed during a recent appearance on the Zach Sang Show.
“I feel like we don’t need to go into any specifics, but, of course, there’s like an insatiable frustration, inexplicable, hellish feeling with watching people misunderstand the people you love and you and anything,” the actress said.
“We selectively remember that this is what the tabloids do to people, especially women, based on whether or not we like the person.”

Ariana continued: “We selectively leave space for humanness, for nuance … (tabloids) don’t leave space for that.”
The God Is A Woman singer added that people usually leave that space “for their friends and family,” but “they turn it off when that aligns with the version of a person that they have in their head that they want to believe is true.”
Fans were suspicious of the timeline of Ariana and Ethan’s romance and accused the actress of stealing the Broadway star from his wife – the mother of his one-year-old son.
DIS TRACK?
Last month, critics slammed Ariana for seemingly bragging about her alleged infidelity on her new track, The Boy Is Mine.
The Disney Channel alum is preparing to release her next studio album, Eternal Sunshine, on March 8 and dropped the entire track list on her Instagram.
Ariana’s song seems to be a callback to the 1998 song of the same name by Brandy and Monica, where the singers fight over a man in the verses.
Fans questioned whether the song was subtly shading Ethan’s ex-wife and called her out on social media.
“Track 8. The husband is mine,” one person mocked on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Lily Jay he is NOT yours,” another commented.
“Should have been called break up with your wife I’m bored,” said a third.
‘FILTHY’ BEHAVIOR
Ariana’s other track, Yes, And, also raised eyebrows with its raunchy lyrics following her alleged cheating scandal with Ethan.
In it, she sings, “Your business is yours, and mine is mine, why do you care so much whose d**k I ride?”
TV star Candace Owens, 34, slammed the Nickelodeon alum’s “filthy” behavior on her podcast.
“Now it’s about the fact that she has come out with a song that basically celebrates her homewrecking capability,” she said.
“She’s just like, ‘Yes, And? I don’t care!’… Yes, I took your husband, took the father of your children, and so what?”
Sources close to Ariana and Ethan stressed at the time that the SpongeBob Squarepants star had broken up with Lilly before their relationship began.
“We want to acknowledge, the general public, that her behavior is absolute filth. We just want to be able to read you for the trash that you are,” the conservative author added.
