There are few joys in life that feel as good as biting into a warm, buttery-soft roll at Texas Roadhouse. Sometimes, that’s all you’re craving from the steakhouse chain, and you’re not the only one.
An average Texas Roadhouse location makes anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 rolls a day, per Yahoo. The rolls are so sought-after, there’s even a version you can buy at Walmart to bake at home. So it makes sense that when one woman bit into one of the rolls she ordered from the chain, she expected the same savory goodness she was used to. Instead, all she tasted was disappointment.
“Did Texas Roadhouse change their rolls?” @practicallyhealed wrote on the on-screen text in her viral TikTok. She explains how she picked up an order from TXRH, which included the rolls and the restaurant’s iconic cinnamon butter.
“I lowkey feel like these aren’t the same bread I used to love,” @practicallyhealed says in between bites of the roll.
She continues that Texas Roadhouse is just her latest favorite restaurant that’s “not hitting the same.”
The TikToker clarifies that the rolls aren’t “bad,” but they’re certainly not delicious, saying they were softer and more buttery before. While the creator questioned whether the company had changed its recipe, viewers speculated as to why they probably tasted different.
What Makes The Rolls Taste Different?
Viewers had different explanations as to why the rolls at TXRH tasted different. Many thought it had to do with whether you were picking up or dining in.
“I feel like they give out different bread when you get it Togo because I noticed they taste and look different,” one wrote.
A second user said the pick-up bread is “not the same,” writing, “I got pick up and the bread didn’t taste the same as when I sat in.”
“I thought the same I did a take out order once and the bread wasn’t the same but then I went to dine in a few weeks later and the bread was what I’m used to,” one recalled. “I feel they do different bread for take out or something.”
However, others who identified themselves as TXRH workers shed light on a potential reason @practicallyhealed’s rolls tasted off.
“As a server at roadhouse….its the people who make them,” one said. “We got some nights…the rolls are questionable. Some people make them better than others. Maybe you went on a bad night.”
A second echoed, “All of yall in the comments are wrong lol. As someone who works there it honestly just depends on who is making it. because some days it is like you said but other days it is like the ‘normal’ bread.”
Did Texas Roadhouse Change Its Rolls?
Texas Roadhouse rolls had made headlines before for not being the same beloved bread everyone was used to. But this was due to its appearance, not its taste. In 2024, there were several news articles reporting how customers alleged that the rolls were smaller. However, a Tasting Table piece shared how it probably had to do more with “human error than corporate penny pinching.” They attributed the difference in sizes to a baker likely making a mistake, or the kitchen being so backed up that the rolls–which are made fresh–tend to be affected.
BroBible reached out to Texas Roadhouse via email to confirm whether its recipe for rolls had changed. It also reached out to the TikToker via TikTok direct message.
