In 2009, Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson became the target of gossip mills after rumors of an alleged secret feud between actresses surfaced in tabloids. The rumors were rooted in reports that Kate Hudson took a scene too far with Anne Hathaway, who was left icing a bruise on the Bride Wars set.
Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson starred in the 2009 romantic comedy film Bride Wars, in which they played two pals who fell out when they both planned to marry on the same day. While the duo were filming the movie, reports alleged the two actress clashed on set due to their creative differences.
Shortly after, reports alleged Kate Hudson “accidentally” punched Anne Hathaway while filming a scene. While Hudson maintained it was an accident, fans believed their on-set frustrations might have culminated in Hudson subliminally taking out her anger on Hathaway.
However, the duo denied the rumours of a feud. But admitted that the on-screen brawl scene went too far. In a 2008 People interview, Anne Hathaway said Hudson smacked her across the face, leaving her with a giant bruise while filming a scene.
Recalling the scene, Hathaway said, “Did you notice Kate’s enormous wedding ring in the movie? Imagine, surrounded in a cloud of tulle, Kate Hudson’s hand with the 9.000-carat diamond coming out and smacking you across the face and staying in character.”
An Embarrassed Kate Hudson said she did not intend to injure Hathaway, adding, “It was not intentional. I hit her, and I went, ‘Oh God’, and she’s like, ‘No, I’m fine, keep going.’
Hudson said the scene left Anne Hathaway “sitting in a chair with an ice pack!” While the duo have denied the feud rumors they have not acted together since the 2009 hit film.
