The original 2006 film, a cult classic for its sharp satire of the cutthroat fashion world, ended with Andy leaving Runway for a job at a New York newspaper. Now, fans will finally get to see what Miranda and Andy are up to in a vastly changed media landscape. In the sequel, Streep’s Miranda finds herself in a high-stakes competition for crucial ad revenue, surprisingly squaring off against her former sharp-tongued assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), who’s now a powerful executive within the fashion industry.

Hathaway recently sent the internet into a frenzy by sharing a first-look photo of herself as Andy in 2025, sporting a pinstripe ensemble and a beaming smile. The image, tagged “Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2,” immediately went viral.

David Frankel, who directed the first film, is back at the helm, working from a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna, who also penned the original. Producers Wendy Finerman and Karen Rosenfelt are on board, with 20th Century Studios slated to release the film on May 1, 2026.
