Lionsgate has released the first official trailer for Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spin-off film that stars Ana de Armas in the lead role. Ballerina will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, June 6.
Ballerina is set to be the first film in the John Wick franchise that does not feature Keanu Reeves in the lead role. Instead, the film focuses on the Oscar-nominated Ana de Armas. Reeves, however, is set to appear in the movie as the Baba Yaga.
According to Lionsgate, Ballerina “takes place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.”

In addition to de Armas as the titular Ballerina and Keanu Reeves as the legendary John Wick, Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus also star in the film. Earlier this year, a Lionsgate confirmed that — despite the seemingly final fate of Wick in Chapter 4 — that a fifth film in the beloved saga was in development.
“Up next, of course, is Ballerina, which is our first spin-off movie and [we] can’t wait for that to release to the world. Of course, we’ve announced we’re working on a fifth John Wick film,” Lionsgate EVP and head of Global Products and Experiences Jenefer Brown said in an interview with ComicBook.
de Armas also recently starred in the Ron Howard-directed film Eden alongside Sydney Sweeney and Vanessa Kirby, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Despite its star-studded cast, which also includes Jude Law and Daniel Bruhl, the film does not yet have an American distributor and therefore does not have a release date. According to de Armas, her character has a “crazy threesome romance” in the film.
