Beloved comedian and actress Amy Poehler has unveiled the trailer for Philly Justice, a fake legal drama spoof that she and her Parks and Recreation co-stars — specifically, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn, Rashida Jones, and Nick Offerman — made during the fourth season of the iconic sitcom.

As Amy Poehler and Parks and Rec creator Mike Schur explain, Philly Justice was an inside joke that occurred on the set of the fourth season of the beloved NBC sitcom and was meant to be a spoof of procedural TV shows made by producer David E. Kelley (Chicago Hope, The Practice, Boston Legal, and more).

Despite being nothing more than an inside joke between the cast, the Parks and Rec team developed backstories for their characters, wrote a script, and even shot footage for an episode that was eventually compiled into a long-dormant trailer.

Poehler, Jones, Scott and Hahn star as attorneys at a Philadelphia law firm, while Offerman plays a judge. They also recruited actor Dylan McDermott to play a spoof of his character on The Practice.

Philly Justice is a fake TV show that we made up a few cast members made up on the set of Parks and Rec one day because we looked at a picture of ourselves and we laughed and we said, ‘Oh, we look like we’re in a TV show called Philly Justice.‘ That small inside joke onset laugh grew into a beast that is still discussed today,” Poehler explained.

“You were all goofing around and improvising, like, improvising who you were and what the show was about, so it just kept wafting up to the writers’ room that everyone was really enjoying this bit. Then I think we all collectively blacked out. And when we woke up, the writers had written scenes for Philly Justice …. And we just started writing scenes, fake scenes for a fake show that didn’t exist, for you, in character,” Schur added.

The below video has been queued up to begin playing at the start of the fake trailer for the fake legal drama Philly Justice.

“This one is for the fans. We heard you loud and clear,” Poehler said of publishing the trailer of footage that was filmed over a decade ago.

While Schur may have hopped into the podcast game with her supremely enjoyable Good Hang with Amy Poehler, recent reports confirmed that she and Schur are re-teaming for a new comedy series called Dig, which was picked up by Peacock.

Based on the Kate Myers novel Excavations, Dig will be about “four women working at an archeological dig in Greece — in wildly different crossroads in their lives — who uncover a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, finding themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”
