Amy Adams is a remarkably versatile actress, but the award-winning performer is taking on one of her most transformative roles yet in the upcoming movie Nightbitch. Focused on the trials of new motherhood, the movie centers on an artist (Adams) who believes she is physically turning into a dog.
Based off the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder, Nightbitch digs into the taxing physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes that occur during postpartum and the toddler years. The film was adapted and directed by Marielle Heller, and co-stars Scoot McNairy as the oblivious husband. When speaking about the film, Heller characterized it as, “A comedy for women, and a horror movie for men.”
“I am a woman. I am an animal. I am Nightbitch,” Adams says ferociously in the trailer, tearing into raw meat with her teeth.
The Toronto International Film Festival is set to host the world premiere of the film later this week on Saturday, September 7th. While there’s no word yet what critics will think of Nightbitch, it’s never too late to revisit our list of five roles for which Amy Adams should have definitely taken home an Oscar.
Nightbitch arrives in theaters on December 6th.
