Luca Guadagnino has signed on to direct a new film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel American Psycho for Lionsgate.
According to Deadline, the film will be an adaptation of Ellis’ novel and not a remake of Mary Harron’s 2000 film starring Christian Bale. The book strikes a much darker and more violent tone than the film and spends more times inside the twisted mind of its main character, Patrick Bateman.
Guadagnino is coming off the success of the tennis drama Challengers, while his upcoming film, an adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ Queer, is earning plenty of buzz on the awards circuit. American Pscyho will be written by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum).
