Wesley Chapel, Florida is a suburb located to the northeast of Tampa up near Zephyrhills that was founded in the mid-1800s by farmers and lumber harvesters. At one point in its early days, Wesley Chapel was known as ‘Gatorville’ which seems apt nearly 200 years later as alligators will not stop trying to enter homes in the middle of the night.
There was a viral video (below) from two weeks ago in Wesley Chapel, Florid showing an alligator scratching on the front door of a home in the middle of the night. Oddly, that was one of three similar incidents across the state in the past few weeks where alligators tried to enter homes through the front door. But within the town of Wesley Chapel, this happens all too often.
While looking up the video from earlier this month in Wesley Chapel, I found similar videos. One from a year ago and another from 9 years ago, all showing alligators trying to enter homes in Wesley Chapel through the front door. Something is up… Here is the incident earlier this month:
Calling that a ‘Florida wake up call’ is nice and cute for mainstream media but as a born-and-raised Floridian whose family has been here for 80+ years, I can confidently say neither myself or any of my relatives have ever been woken up by an alligator scratching on the front door. But then again, we have never lived in Wesley Chapel.
Alligators Won’t Stop Trying To Enter Homes In Wesley Chapel, Florida
This incident occurred one year ago in Wesley Chapel. Similar circumstances, but a different house:
And this gator knocked on a home’s front door 9 years ago trying to finagle its way inside:
Alligators in the wild can live up to 50 years old. So for starters, we cannot discount that this is the same alligator and he once made his way inside and has been chasing the high of air conditioning and DirecTV ever since.
I’m not a herpetologist and cannot say for certain that it is/isn’t the same alligator but my presumption is these three videos show three different alligators.
So with that in mind, why Wesley Chapel? Why are gators constantly waking people up in Wesley Chapel by knocking on the front door? 3 incidents is a lot more incidents than have occurred in my town. Something is up and MyFWC should think about investigating!
