Alex Rodriguez Shares Cryptic Quote Amid Ex Jennifer Lopez’s Divorce

A recent Instagram post from Jennifer Lopez‘s ex-partner, Alex Rodriguez, has raised eyebrows, with many thinking it is directed at the Hollywood star.

Rodriguez had made the post around the same time that news about Lopez filing for divorce from Ben Affleck had made headlines.

On August 20, Jennifer Lopez officially kicked off the legal process for her fourth divorce after her marriage was plagued with split rumors for months.

As Lopez’s decision to file for divorce continues to dominate headlines, a recent post from her ex, Rodriguez, around the time the news broke has sparked speculation about whether the former MLB star was subtly directing the message at her.

“You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction,” Rodriguez wrote in his Instagram Story.

He also added his name to the post, hinting that it was a unique quote from him and not one that already existed.

While the post likely had nothing to do with Lopez, the timing of its appearance online seemed suspicious to many.

Rodriguez and Lopez’s relationship began in 2017, and they were engaged to be married in 2019.

However, in April 2021, the pair ended their engagement and relationship and chose to move forward as friends.

When Lopez and Rodriguez ended their relationship, they released a joint statement about their decision and informed fans that it was amicable.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” they said to Entertainment Tonight at the time. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.”

They added, “The only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

However, Lopez and Affleck seem to prefer that things remain under the radar. They have yet to comment publicly on their split, even now that it has been confirmed that Lopez has officially filed for divorce in court.

In Lopez’s filing at the L.A. County Superior Court, she revealed what many had suspected—that her marriage to Affleck had fallen apart long ago.

For months, the duo rarely appeared in public, with one of the few appearances being the basketball game of Affleck’s son Samuel in June. Even then, they arrived at the game separately and appeared to have a cold vibe about them.

Lopez and Affleck were also spotted ditching their wedding rings on several occasions. News that Affleck had moved out of their shared Beverly Hills mansion to stay in a rental home in Brentwood was even more telling that the duo had fallen out of love.

Now, all of these seem to make more sense, as Lopez’s filing showed that she and Affleck parted ways on April 26, 2024.

More interestingly, it revealed that the duo did not get a prenup, which implies that they might be in a court battle over the money they made or properties they acquired during their relationship.

As the estranged couple moves forward, it is possible that they will remain amicable despite the end of their marriage.

Their joint appearance at Samuel’s game, even after their separation, hints at it happening. Furthermore, Lopez has visited Affleck’s rental home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, at least twice since he moved out of their Beverly Hills mansion.

One visit occurred after she noticeably snubbed him on social media on his 52nd birthday, while the second visit was to spend time with Affleck’s children—Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 11—whom he shares with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.

Lopez also has twins, Max and Emme, 16, with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

“Just because she’s not with Ben doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about his kids,” a source shared about the visit at the time, per People.

They added, “She always cared about them. She spent months looking for the perfect house for their blended family last year. Now when she’s back in L.A., she wants to spend quality time with them before school resumes and Violet is off to college.”

According to People Magazine, a source revealed that Lopez’s decision to end the marriage came after she reached a breaking point, feeling she had waited long enough for the relationship to work out.

The singer’s divorce filing stated the date of their separation as April 26, 2024, with the insider telling the news outlet that she decided to call it quits because she “was done waiting.”

“She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken,” the insider said. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
