Given that James Gunn is what most movie fans would call “very online,” especially for the head of a massive movie studio, he’s the type of person who likely knows that whatever he says is going to reverberate through Reddit, Twitter, the blog-o-sphere, and so on, making it all the more surprising that he recently said in an interview that actress Adria Arjona would make a “great” Wonder Woman.
Thanks to her performances in films such as Triple Frontier, Father of the Bride, The Absence of Eden, Hit Man, Los Frikis, Blink Twice, her latest movie Splitsville, and the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, Adria Arjona has become one of the most sought-after actresses in the world. It’s not hard to see why, either.

When an actor reaches that level of popularity, the next step usually involves them being fan-cast into popular roles, particularly within the comic book movie genre. And for Arjona, that fan-fueled dream casting is that of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
“I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” Gunn said in an interview with Extra. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
It does without saying that Arjona has both the charisma (Hit Man), dramatic chops (Andor), and looks (her general existence) to tackle a role like Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The only lingering question about her would be her action chops, the 33-year-old has yet to feature in an action-heavy role. Still, that’s something that can be taught and learned, especially to a motivated actor.
Beyond being one of the most exciting young actresses in Hollywood, Arjona certainly has the inside track to the Wonder Woman role as her boyfriend Jason Mamoa has already been cast in the DCU as Lobo and will make his debut in next summer’s Supergirl. Mamoa was reportedly one of Gunn’s first calls when he was named co-CEO of DC Studios, which presumably means the pair have a close relationship (on a professional level, at the very least).
Whoever does ultimately wind up as the next Wonder Woman will have to fill the shoes of Gal Gadot which really shouldn’t be all that difficult of a task as much of the film world has turned on her and her perceived acting abilities in recent years. That said, the original 2017 Wonder Woman was legitimately great and I won’t hear otherwise.
As far as fan-casting Wonder Woman goes, my outside-the-box pick is Charlee Fraser, an Australian model and actress who put forth a scene-stealing performance as Furiosa’s mother in George Millers Furiosa (she also made her film debut in the massive rom-com Anyone But You.
