Actress Adria Arjona, who most recently starred in Richard Linklater’s hit Netflix film Hit Man, is turning into a movie star right before our eyes.

One of the interesting aspects of an actor or actress becoming a household name is that you begin to notice them in past movie and television projects for the first time.

While Adria Arjona, for example, is just becoming widely recognizable now, she’s been on the rise for a few years now, starring in projects such as Good Omens, Irma Veep, Triple Frontier, 6 Underground, Person of Interest, Narcos, The Belko Experiment, Pacific Rim Uprising, Morbius, Father of the Bride, Emerald City, Andor, and True Detective.

True Detective, according to Arjona, is a particularly important project in her career, as she recently revealed in an interview it was a “big, big get” for her after she lied in order to land the job.

“I think True Detective was a big, big get for me, and I sort of pretended to be my manager in that in order to get the job,” Arjona told Collider.

“It’s a long story… I watched the first season, and I was doing Person of Interest and I told one of the producers, ‘I can’t be a season regular because I’m going to go do True Detective.’ And he was like, ‘What do you mean? Do you have the job?’ And I was like, ‘No, I don’t.’ He’s like, ‘So you’re going to let go of the job? But you auditioned?’ I was like, ‘No, I haven’t auditioned yet.’ I just knew I had to be on it, and I knew I was going to be on it for some reason. I got this intuitional thing.”

Arjona featured as Emily in the second season of True Detective, which starred Colin Farrel, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn.

Arjona’s breakout 2024 isn’t finished, however, as she’ll also be starring in the upcoming film Blink Twice alongside Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Haley Joel Osment, Kyle MacLachlan, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat.

She’ll also be featured in the second season of the Disney+ series Andor, which is expected to premiere in 2025. Hit Man, which she stars in alongside fellow breakout A-lister Glen Powell, is now streaming on Netflix.
