Roberts revealed some of her workout secrets to BBC Radio. She says that she trained like a bodybuilder for a period of time. “It was a 30 day challenge, training with a female body builder which involved me changing everything about my lifestyle. I used to be quite naughty before I started it. I had to get a whole new diet which I had to stick to daily and a training regime involving cardio and weight lifting. I wanted to see what female body builders go through with the rise of girls getting into the gym to be stronger.”
Roberts tells BBC Radio that her relationships with food and exercise have changed. “Looking back, I think food was a comfort thing for me. I would feel sad or emotional and my first go-to was eating. Now I’ve replaced it with going to the gym. People always said that it could make me feel good but I had never got to that point with the gym. But just being in your own space, listening to your music is really calming. The old me would have said no way but it’s true.”
In addition to working out, Roberts has made changes to her diet. She tells BBC Radio that she is finding healthy alternatives to her favorite foods. “Substitute certain bad foods for a healthier version. If you get takeaways, try to make it at home first and that immediately removes some of the badness.”
One of the things that will motivate Roberts to stick with her plans is the results she sees. She tells BBC Radio, “Get through the tough times because the reward at the end is so worth it. Only do it if you want to do it in your heart because feeling good is the ultimate motivation. Nothing you do to make you feel good will make you look bad.”
Roberts told BBC that she is making small changes to her life that will help her stay healthy. She says that this is easier than just jumping into a diet. “Do something small, like swap sugar for honey. Or instead of getting the bus that short distance, walk it instead.”
