Veteran comedian and actor Adam Sandler admits he has to shake it off anytime he’s around America’s Sweetheart, Taylor Swift.
During a recent guest spot on SiriusXM’s Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Sandler and host Conan O’Brien discussed their childhood idols. The comedy legends observed how modern-day celebrities struggle to leave a lasting impression on them.
“What I have found is that people can be absolute icons, make the biggest stars in the world, but if they came along five years ago, I’m very happy to meet them, but they don’t have that effect on me. I’m not like, ‘Oh my, oh my God,’ you know, the way I would be from anybody that I saw [growing up],” Conan said.
However, the Happy Madison actor admitted to being starstruck by a certain 21st-century celebrity.
“You know what — Taylor Swift,” Adam Sandler admitted. Of course, it’s less because of his own fandom of the beloved songstress and more because his daughters are dyed-in-the-wool Swifties.
“Because what she means to my kids, I get it a little f—n’ jumpy. Just ’cause I don’t wanna blow it for my kids. So I’m a little like ‘Taylor, Taylor,’ like I talk a little too loud or something. I don’t stay as cool as I can.”
Adam Sandler Compares Current Taylor Swift Fever to Beatlemania
“Yeah, I can see that. Yeah, she’s, I mean, she’s this whole other level now,” Conan replied. Sandler, who has teenage daughters Sadie and Sunny with his wife, Jackie Sandler, went as far as likening Swift’s immense popularity to the Beatlemania of the 1960s.
“People talk about The Beatles of it all and her. I mean, man, so many smash hits,” Sandler added. “There’s not a word my kids don’t know.”
While Sandler remains humble, he has gained fame for his stand-up comedy, Saturday Night Live characters, and lovable film roles like Grown Ups and Happy Gilmore. Recently, he was honored with the People’s Icon Award at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards.
Sandler has been seen showing support for Swift in the past, accompanying his two daughters to one of the Grammy-winning singer’s shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last year. He also attended the premiere of The Eras Tour: The Movie.
