Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has long been the odds-on favorite for the part, has reportedly been officially offered the role of James Bond.
It should be noted that the report comes from the British tabloid The Sun, which has a history of inaccurate and misleading reporting, therefore making this report far from official.
“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.” [via The Sun]
The Sun adds that the next James Bond film, which does not have a director, is expected to begin production sometime this year.
Taylor-Johnson, 33 years old, will next be seen starring in the Sony Spider-Man Universe film Kraven the Hunter, which was originally supposed to be released last fall but was delayed to late August 2024 due to the actors’ strike. 2024 will also see Taylor-Johnson featuring in The Fall Guy and Nosferatu.
By the time the next James Bond movie, which does not have an official release date, hits theaters, Taylor-Johnson will likely be at least 35 years old. For comparison, Daniel Craig was 38 years old when Casino Royale hit theaters in 2006.
The most recent Bond film, and the final one starring Craig in the lead role, was No Time To Die, which was released in 2021.
Taylor-Johnson is best known for his work in films such as Kick-Ass, Savages, Godzilla, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Nocturnal Animals, Tenet, The King’s Man, and Bullet Train.
His personal life has also generated a few headlines over the years, as he met his wife, Sam Taylor-Wood, on the set of the film Nowhere Boy when he was just 18 and she was 42. Three years later, the pair got married and now share two children.
