Few people would want to start a physical altercation with actor and former wrestling star Dave Bautista. However, one of his Guardians of the Galaxy cast mates actually socked him in the eye for real during the filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And no, it wasn’t Chris Pratt. It was a newcomer to the franchise, Will Poulter, who played the golden-skinned Adam Warlock. Yes, it was all an accident on the set, of course. But I wouldn’t want to be Poulter right after punching Drax in the face. The actor told the story during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show (via Comic Book).
We’re doing this fight sequence and I grew up watching Dave [Bautista] — as a wrestler and then as an actor — I’m a bit nervous. I haven’t done a ton of fight choreography. Anyway, we’re doing this fight scene and I accidentally punched Dave straight in the face. You realize when you do films, you’re so much better off handing over to the stunt people.
After the scene in question, Bautista was pulled back using wires, but in the aftermath, his eye was smeared with gold from Poulter’s makeup. A stunt performer finished the rest of the scene from that point on. We can’t imagine Dave Bautista, who is by all accounts a good sport, being too mean to poor Will Poulter after the fact. But we think anyone would have been mortified at having accidentally punched him in the face.

This unfortunate incident has not put Poulter off from wanting to return to the MCU as his iconic Marvel character, however. Sadly, his name was not among the many revealed for Avengers: Doomsday. But so far, it seems none of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast are part of this story. But we have a feeling we’ll see Adam Warlock again someday. We wouldn’t hate a Warlock Disney+ series down the line. However, don’t expect to see Bautista as Drax again, perhaps ever. He’s all but sworn off the heavy makeup that goes with playing Drax for all time. And we must admit, the MCU simply won’t be the same without him.
