For the second time in under a month, a 500+ pound bear has been discovered taking up residence underneath a Los Angeles home and this time it’s in Pasadena. Late last month, a 500+ bear in Altadena just a few miles away was found squatting underneath a home following the Eaton wildfire and a few weeks later this massive bear appears to be there under similar circumstances.
This bear, nicknamed Yogi, has been seen around the Pasadena neighborhood for several years. Previous footage showed Yogi living his best life on a neighbor’s pool deck. Homeowner Sean Lorenzini says this 500-pound bear made its way underneath his Pasadena home while escaping the Eaton wildfire back in the second week of January, meaning it has been over a month of this squatter refusing to leave.
One neighbor spoke with KTLA 5 saying Yogi the bear has made mince meat of his bear-proof trash cans:
Yogi evidently only comes out at night as well which makes setting up a blockade extremely difficult but Lorenzini told the local news this bear is causing trouble down below. He said “we are having some fuses blown, so he’s down there obviously whacking things around. Some of the insulation has been pulled out.”
This is all eerily reminiscent of the aforementioned 525-pound black bear a few miles away that took up residence underneath an Altadena home following the Eaton fire:

California Department of Fish and Wildlife
You’d think with a 500-pound taking up residence through a crawlspace in the middle of a neighborhood that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife would do something about it quickly, right? Well, you’d think wrong.
Lorenzini told KTLA 5 “I need him out. I don’t want him hurt but I need him removed and I think he’s just going to come back” while the CDFW confirmed they are aware of the bear and are determining the best way to remove it which seems like governmental speak for “if we just wait it out the bear will leave” but nobody is saying that out loud.
