When you think about it, movies are really just a series of revelations. Of course, there’s the classic plot twist, but that’s not always the movie’s big reveal. It might be an element thrown in to defy your expectations or the first glimpse of a hyped-up character or magical realm or even a callback to a previous movie while the director turns a big dial that says “nostalgia” and constantly looks back at the audience for approval.
But “big” doesn’t necessarily mean “good” when it comes to reveals. Remember when you found out Last Christmas was called that because, last Christmas, he literally gave her his heart? How dumb was that? How much of a grudge did you try and fail to hold against Emma Thompson? (She’s just too damn engaging.) So when user Jburg12 asked r/AskReddit, “What are the best ‘reveal’ scenes in film?” the unveilings that left them picking their jaws up off the floor rather than throwing stuff at the TV stuck out in Redditors’ minds.
