It’s easy for an actor to get typecast. It might be the way that they look (nobody’s buying Chalamet as an action hero), or they might have a very particular set of skills, or it might just happen by accident. You play one guy who communicates exclusively in complicated special handshakes, and then you play one more guy who does that, and suddenly, you’re the handshake guy.
When the only part an actor can play is themselves, though, they never stood a chance. There’s one thing they can do, and it just happens to be what they would be doing anyway. Sometimes, that’s plenty to fill seats; other times, it’s a one-way ticket to infomercialdom. Whatever the case, one Redditor asked r/AskReddit, “Which actor seems to only play themselves?” and many such one-dimensional thespians filled their (computer) screens in return.
