Each week, Consequence rings in New Music Friday by highlighting new albums to stream. As the new season begins, here are some releases to get you into the fall spirit.

Bob Dylan — The 1974 Live Recordings
It feels like an understatement to call this just one album to stream, considering the fact that the physical box set for this release consists of 27 (!) discs of 431 newly mixed songs, including a mind-boggling 417 never before released tracks. 50 years after the iconic artist’s seminal 1974 tour, these recordings are every diehard fan’s dream. Bright Eyes – Five Dice, All Threes
It’s been a bit of a tough week for Conor Oberst and Bright Eyes, as they’ve had to cancel their record-release shows at the last-minute. Still, even with that damper, they’re back with something they should be proud of: Their anticipated 11th album, Five Dice, All Threes. There’s a camaraderie and unbreakable spirit throughout the album, and it’s great to have Bright Eyes back.

Jamie xx – In Waves
It’s been nine long years since we received Jamie xx’s sublime solo album In Colour, which we named as one of the best albums of the last 15 years back in 2022. But patience is a virtue, and Jamie xx is rewarding fans with another highly-anticipated work today, In Waves. In addition to guest spots from his bandmates in The xx, the album also features contributions from Panda Bear, Honey Dijon, The Avalanches, and more.

Julian Casblancas + The Voidz – Like All Before You
The Voidz’ first album in six years is undoubtedly ambitious, but then again, the Julian Casablancas-led outfit have never really played it safe. Produced with figures like Justin Raisen and Yves Tumor at their home studio in Los Angeles, Like All Before You is an intriguing, experimental return from the Voidz.

Kate Pierson — Radios and Rainbows
The B-52s vocalist is back with her first album in almost a decade, and she is returning with a bang. Pierson has incorporated a variety of genres into Radios and Rainbows, from disco to dance music — meanwhile she’s enlisted songwriters and producers like Sia, Bleu McCauley, Chris Braide, and Jimmy Harry to make her second solo album a special one.

Manu Chao — Viva Tu
Genre and language-blending superstar artist Manu Chao has officially delivered his first LP in 17 years. The French-Spanish musician teased the project with a handful of singles, and the full album, Viva Tu, expands on the warm, wide-ranging energy offered in “Tu Te Vas” and “São Paolo Motorboy.” The 13 tracks span across Spanish, French, Portuguese, and English, and Chao describes the project as the result of inspiration from daily lives he’s observed in his world travels over the years.

Nubya Garcia — Odyssey
The London-born saxophonist, composer and bandleader has knocked it out of the park with her sophomore album, Odyssey, a hypnotic, wide-ranging collection of music that includes a mix of instrumental tracks and songs with visiting vocalists. Guests include Esperanza Spalding and Georgia Ann Muldrow, but every moment of Odyssey is an absolute treat.

Sunset Rubdown – Always Happy to Explode
Spencer Krug is back for his first Sunset Rubdown album in 15 years, and it’s a welcome return. The group fashions their indie rock sound in unpredictable, expressionistic ways, and Always Happy to Explode reprises their typically-raw sound with a little bit of aged maturity. Those excited about their reunion will also be pleased to hear they’re heading on tour next month.

Thurston Moore – Flow Critical Lucidity
The former Sonic Youth member embraces a range of inspirations for his ninth studio album, invoking themes of nature, lucid dreaming, and modern dance for one track before embracing psychedelia elsewhere and sharply pivoting to off-kilter production and stories of “power-hungry creeps” for another. Throughout, Moore’s detached, observational style reigns supreme.

Various Artists — Silver Patron Saints: The Songs of Jesse Malin
Last year, rock musician Jesse Malin was left paralyzed from the waist down following a spinal stroke. To support his recovery, a group of artists have gotten together to cover some of Malin’s best songs, with all of the proceeds going towards his rehabilitation. From Bruce Springsteen to Billie Joe Armstrong to Susanna Hoffs, every singer brings their own sound to Malin’s music, leading to a thrilling cornucopia of rock music.
