Genesis Denise Hale may not have a lot of professional acting experience under her belt, but she’s already proving that she is a star in the making. Genesis earned her breakout role in 2018 when she was cast as Maisha on the Showtime series The Chi. Throughout the show’s five seasons, viewers have gotten to see the character grow tremendously. In addition to being on the show, Genesis also hit the big screen in 2021 with her role in the movie Candyman which was a remake of the 1992 movie of the same name. Although Genesis doesn’t appear to have any upcoming projects in the works at the moment, we can only hope that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the years to come. 1. She’s a Chicago Native
Genesis was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, and she always represents where she’s from. She is grateful to be able to do what she loves in the city she loves, and she’s proud of how The Chi has provided representation for Chicago. From what we can tell, Genesis still lives in Chicago.
2. She Comes from a Creative Family
Genesis isn’t the first person in her family to fall in love with the arts. During an interview with Pop Culturalist, she said, “My mom is an actress and does theater. She always took me with her everywhere she went, so the arts became a part of something that I knew.”
3. She’s a Poet
Acting is what has been getting Genesis the most attention, but it isn’t the only art form she enjoys. She is also a talented writer, and she loves being able to express herself through poetry. She told Pop Culturalist, “I think I definitely gravitate more to poetry, but that’s because it’s something that I can do on the spot. Like if I see somebody or a group of people performing, I guarantee you that in the next five to ten minutes, I’m going to be somewhere up there doing something. It’s a natural thing. ”

4. She Dealt With Bullying When She Was Younger
Genesis has achieved a lot of success over the years, and she’s had some great moments along the way. At the same time, however, she’s also had to deal with some challenging moments. When she was younger, she experienced bullying, which took a toll on her.
5. She’s Released Music
In addition to poetry and acting, Genesis is also a really talented rapper who released a single called “Up Up Up” in 2021. She will definitely be releasing more music in the future. Her love for hip-hop is something that has been incorporated into her character on The Chi.
6. She Likes Inspiring Others
Genesis is grateful for all of the things acting, music, and poetry have allowed her to do, but she wants to do more with her talents than keep people entertained. She also hopes to use her platform to inspire other people. She hopes that her success can allow other people to see the value in chasing their dreams regardless of the challenges they face.

7. She Really Is a Teenager
Anyone who watches movies or TV shows knows that it’s very common for adults to play much older characters on TV. However, that isn’t the case with The Chi. Like the rest of her cast mates who play high school students, Genesis is a teenager. She will be turning 18 years old in January of 2023.
8. She Can Relate to Her Character on The Chi
Being from Chicago isn’t the only thing that Genesis and Maisha have in common. In fact, one of the things that Genesis really loves about the character is that she can relate to her. They both embody a sense of strength and confidence that comes through on the screen.
9. She Does Public Speaking
Genesis is as multi-talented as they come, and she loves being able to share that with the world. On top of everything else she does, Genesis also does public speaking gigs. As her career continues to grow, there’s a good chance that we’ll see her do even more public speaking in the future.

10. She Wants to do More Movies
As of now, Candyman is the only film credit that Genesis has on her acting resume, but she’s certainly hoping that won’t always be the case. One of the goals she has for herself is to do more movies. She didn’t mention if there’s a particular genre she’d like to work in, but I think she has the potential to play a wide variety of roles.
