DJ Premier took to Twitter this week to tease a forthcoming release with his frequent collaborator Nas.
Premo posted a video featuring a brand new snippet of Nas rapping over a beat from the legendary producer. The clip begins with Premier giving viewers a glimpse of the plaque he earned from his work on Nas’ debut Illmatic, which is hanging on the wall at the producer’s home turf of Kaufman Astoria Studios in Long Island City, before panning over to “Control Room B.”
DJ Premier captioned the post, “7/15 @Nas,” hinting at a July 15 release date for their latest offering.
Over the past few years, Nas’ chemistry with Hit-Boy has fueled his recent comeback, as the latter has served as executive producer on the Queens rapper’s last three full-length offerings, 2020’s King’s Disease, 2021’s King’s Disease II, and 2021’s Magic.
However, there’s no denying that no rapper-producer pairing has reached the heights of Nas and DJ Premier. Premo produced a handful of tracks on Nas’ 1994 landmark debut Illmatic (“N.Y. State of Mind,” “Represent,” “Memory Lane (Sittin’ in da Park)”), as well as a string of other signature Nas tracks: It Was Written’s “I Gave You Power,” I Am…’s “Nas Is Like,” Nastradamus’ “Come Get Me,” and Stillmatic’s “2nd Childhood,” among others.
Check out the snippet of Nas’ new DJ Premier-produced track up top, and stay tuned for its forthcoming release next Friday.
