The future of the controversial Fyre Festival is due to unfold in the Hamptons on August 26th, according to Billy McFarland.
“The first FYRE event since 2017 is exactly two months away,” the disgraced Fyre founder said matter-of-factly into the camera in a recent Instagram post.
McFarland first teased that Fyre Festival II was in the works in early April and even released a typeform wherein entrants could apply for an invitation. His announcement of the upcoming Fyre event in August suggests it could merely be the first in a series on the road to ill-fated Bahamian festival’s second coming.
Upon revealing the date for the next chapter of Fyre, McFarland followed up the announcement with an email, which has been obtained by EDM.com.
“The First FYRE event since 2017 will be on our PYRT Ship in the Hamptons on August 26th,” the email reads. “Tickets will not be sold.”
Instead, a combination of prospective attendees who filled out the typeform—plus members of McFarland’s private marketing curriculum, “Build With Billy”—will represent the bulk of the audience. Back in November, McFarland announced plans for “PYRT,” a so-called “scavenger hunt” in the Bahamas that was quickly condemned by the island country’s Deputy Prime Minister.
The stakes for a successful Fyre Festival redemption arc are sky-high for McFarland, who is currently angling to pay back $26 million in restitution charges dating back to his festival’s original failure to launch. McFarland was released from prison last year after he entered a guilty plea for fraud back in 2018.
