After waiting for decades to utter the phrase ‘the future is now’ we can finally say it after new Volkswagen glow paint technology was debuted at CES in Las Vegas.
CES in Las Vegas bills itself as ‘the most influential tech event in the world.’ Some years that rings true, other years not so much.
The 4-day event in Sin City runs from January 5th-8th this year. And it is hard to imagine anything will top the new Volkswagen glow paint technology debuted on Day 1.
Influential YouTuber Supercar Blondie showed the world this new Volkswagen glow paint technology on her massively popular YouTube channel. Volkswagen debuted this on their new VW ID.7 which is Volkswagen‘s first-ever fully electric sedan. This electric paint looks like something out of a futuristic Sci-Fi film:
For anyone who thinks that is lights from the ceiling and walls projecting on the car, it’s not. That color-changing pattern on the camo Volkswagen glow paint technology is coming from the paint itself. It is the paint that’s glowing and powered by ‘electroluminescence.’
There are 40 layers of paint on the all-electric VW ID.7. She says each layer of paint is ‘super, super thin’ and within those 40 layers of glow paint there’s a layer of phosphorous. By running electrical currents through the paint, the phosphorous glow.
Each panel has different-colored layers of paint. Controlling the electrical currents allows for color change.
I can’t say that I look forward to a world where the paint jobs on our cars have QR codes but I’ll assume that’s more about branding here and not an actual feature of the vehicle. The Supercar Blondie actually seems excited about the QR code which I find odd, saying “it’s even got a QR code on the car!”
The Supercar Blondie, Alexandra Mary Hirschi, does say this VW ID.7 is the model that will be sold. However, it will not come with the new Volkswagen glow paint technology.
If you enjoyed this video then I suspect you’ll like this next one as well… The Supercar Blondie went to Dubai earlier this year. There she toured a $40 million mansion with an underwater garage:
Imagine having that supercar collection and putting it under the ocean.
