Jin of BTS has officially completed his time in the South Korean military and was discharged on June 12th, 2024. After enlisting in December of 2022, the singer spent 18 months completing the mandatory service period and has wrapped his time with the rank of sergeant.
Jin’s military discharge happens to line up with FESTA, the annual celebration marking the day BTS first debuted as a band (June 13th, 2013). To celebrate both occasions, Jin will be hosting an in-person celebration titled “Jin’s Greetings,” which will welcome fans who were selected from a lottery. 1,000 especially lucky guests will then get to participate in an event designated for “light hugs” with the artist, per Jin’s own request.
Currently, the company building for HYBE, which houses BIGHIT MUSIC, is decorated with signage reading “APOBANGPO,” an abbreviation for “ARMY Forever, Bangtan Forever.” RM, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook were all on site to welcome him home, and the group shared a photo of the reunion before the members returned to their respective duties.
While most of the bandmates have a full year remaining in their mandatory service windows, the next member slated for discharge is j-hope, who is set to complete his time in October 2024. In the meantime, Jung Kook released a song recorded before his enlistment period began as a gift to to the fans for this year’s BTS anniversary. Group leader RM also recently released a sophomore solo LP, Right Place Wrong Person — tune into the latest episode of “Stanning BTS” for a breakdown of the project.
