The release of the new Nine Inch Nails song “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” was just a harbinger for a deeper look at TRON: Ares, which drew us fully back into the world first launched by the 1982 Disney film. In this new trailer, we see tech mogul Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) explain his grand plan for a new army of programmable soldiers, one of which has the face of Jared Leto and a desire to discover if there’s more to life than flying around jet planes.
According to the official description from Disney, “TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”
The new movie’s cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges. (Sounds like Anderson’s using her British accent for this one, which is fun.) Joachim Rønning (Young Woman and the Sea, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) directs the movie, which of course features new music from Nine Inch Nails, including the bits of “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” we hear in the new trailer.
