Kate Middleton’s Diagnosis Is The Latest In Royal Health Battles
Kate’s confirmation of her cancer diagnosis is the latest in health issues that the royal family has announced over the past few months.
In February, Buckingham Palace revealed that Charles himself was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer, which doctors discovered while the King received treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Kate herself was initially admitted in January for an abdominal surgery, and doctors reportedly discovered the cancer after a successful operation. She’s now on a “recovery pathway” after starting chemotherapy treatment in late February.
Another Royal, Sarah, the Duchess of York, also announced that she was receiving medical treatment in early 2024. She revealed that doctors had diagnosed her with malignant melanoma, which is a form of skin cancer.
The Princess Has Asked For Privacy As She Recovers
In the video announcement of her cancer diagnosis, Kate said the doctors confirmed it was cancer after her “planned abdominal surgery.” She spoke about how her husband, Prince William, and their three kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, have been a “source of comfort” to her as she receives treatment.
In the video, Kate also addressed the public and thanked them for “the love, support, and kindness” that she’s received amidst her health issues. Then she said, “We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment.”
Kate further said in the statement that she’s anticipating returning to her Royal duties when she’s treated herself fully. She said, “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”
Leading British Figures Have Sent Best Wishes To Kate Middleton
After the cancer confirmation, U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak released a statement, saying that Kate “has the love and support of the whole country as she continues her recovery.” His tweet on X read, “She has shown tremendous bravery with her statement today.” He also said that Kate deserves “the privacy to focus on her treatment and be with her loving family.”
Keir Starmer, the leader of the opposition Labour Party, also released a statement on behalf of his party regarding her cancer diagnosis. He sent his “very best wishes” to Princess Kate and wrote, “Any cancer diagnosis is shocking. But I can only imagine the added stress of receiving that news amid the lurid speculation we’ve seen in recent weeks.”
London Mayor Sadiq Khan also made a post on X wishing Kate “a swift recovery” from her chemotherapy and cancer treatment. It read, “Cancer has an impact on so many of us — & her bravery in sharing her diagnosis will help raise awareness & encourage others to get checked.”
