Drake’s got a new ’do.
The Toronto rapper generated buzz this week after celebrity hairstylist Brie Marie updated his look. A video posted on Marie’s Instagram page shows Drizzy sitting on a chair as he shows off a braid design inspired by the OVO owl—the mascot of his record label and fashion imprint.
“I already hear y’all now lol ‘Drake Got an Owl Braided in his head,’” Marie wrote in the caption. “It’s only right to make this a reality. I’d be lying if I say I don’t shock myself. 🤝🏾 TIME AND TIME Again. God thank you, you’ve truly blessed me.”
While some Twitter users were amused by the design, specifically the gold ring details, the majority of fans applauded Marie for the impressive work.
“It’s the double ring eyes,” one person wrote.
“This is dope as fuuuck, and the jewelry eyes was the cherry on top,” another commented.
“This is insanely hard😮💨,” artist Luis Armando added.
Marie made a name for herself after deciding to scrap her military plans and pursue hair-braiding full time. She built a celebrity clientele that included names like James Harden, Swae Lee, Rich Homie Quan, and Riff Raff. Her most famous client is without a doubt Drake, who consistently sported braids around the release of Honestly, Nevermind.
Brie told Complex in October that she connected with Drake after she was hired by one of his friends.
“He saw it and was like, ‘Bro, I need that.’ I got the call the next day and was like, ‘Come through,’” she recalled. She went on to reflect on the impact Drake has had on her career, saying, “It’s one of those things where you don’t know until you know. I’d definitely say it really helped bring a lot more traction to my work, a lot more people recognizing that I do have a love and a passion for my brand.”
