Djo Performs "Basic Being Basic" on Fallon: Watch

Djo, the indie act fronted by Stranger Things star Joe Keery, hit The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (January 28th) to perform his new song “Basic Being Basic.” Watch Keery and the band play the cut below.

The lead single from Djo’s upcoming album The Crux (pre-order here), “Basic Being Basic” sees Keery making like James Murphy, wryly dropping cultural references over a percussive, synth-forward instrumental. For the Tonight Show performance , the polymath brought along an army of a band, including backup singers and two full drum kits. Still, the spotlight shines on Keery as he struts about the stage and all but winks at the camera while he delivers the cheeky lines.

In addition to singing “Basic Being Basic,” Keery also sat down for a chat with Fallon. The two discuss the viral celebrity look-alike contests, the background of The Crux, and, of course, Stranger Things. Check out the full interview below.

Along with the new album, Keery has announced a run of 2025 tour dates. Hitting cities in multiple countries around the world, Keery will bring along his former band Post Animal as support. Get tickets to any of Djo’s upcoming tour dates here.

The actor/musician also recently portrayed Stephen Malkmus in the Pavement-inspired film Pavements. For more, revisit Keery’s conversation with Kyle Meredith from last year about his viral hit “End of Beginning,” life beyond Stranger Things, and more.
