Speaking to BroBible to promote the release of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera on digital platforms, franchise director Christian Gudegast sat down for a 30-minute chat in which he broke down what makes the original film so beloved, his plans for Den of Thieves 3 and a prequel, and more!
On a Den of Thieves prequel with Pablo Schrieber’s Merriman and 50 Cent’s Enson
“It’s the end of Merrimen and Enson’s military career, and there’s this incident they’re both involved in that’s really have — you see that, and then you come home with them — it’s really about the turn from military life to a criminal life and an exploration of why that happens and how that happens. And those kinds of dudes that do that, where they are in their lives, what leads them down that path. And you see them slow burn into why they become wha they become [in Den 1].”
On Den of Thieves 3, which he says is inspired by the William Friedkin film Sorcerer
“The structure is going to be different. It’s going to go into more of a geopolitical world. I don’t want to give it away, but it’s going to involve international espionage groups, etc. There’s a little bit of ‘Sorcerer’ going on. Friedkin is one of my all-times. So there’s a lot of Sorcerer in there.”
