A 25-year-old West Point graduate, First Lieutenant Gabrielle White, has become the first woman in history to complete the U.S. Army’s annual Best Ranger competition. It is an event which spans 3 days and 30+ individual events and is held each year at Fort Benning in Georgia which is home to the 75th Ranger regiment.

This is an absolutely monumental accomplishment for First Lt. Gabrielle White. She was the only female entered in the Best Ranger competition which included 52 two-man teams.

Once it was all said and done, First Lt. Gabrielle White finished in 14th place overall with only 16 of the 52 teams making it to Day 3 (32 competitors). After news of her accomplishment began to spread, many on social media are finding her accomplishment to be a huge source of inspiration:

The annual Best Ranger Competition runs the full gamut of events and tests soldiers on every discipline. Various events include night land navigation, raft construction, physical tests of all sorts, helicopter missions, first responder tests, strength competitions, marching tests, marksmanship tests, and the lists goes on and on.

Day 3 of the Army‘s Best Ranger Competition includes the absolutely grueling Buddy Run as the final (39th) event:

West Point grad First Lt. Gabrielle White made history not just as the first woman to compete in this Best Ranger Competition but also as the first African American woman, so this is a dual milestone for her. And by finishing 14th overall out of 104 competitors she certainly proved she has what it takes to compete amongst the Army’s elite.

According to a report from NBC News, White graduated from Army Ranger School in 2022, just 7 years after it was opened up to female candidates.

Among all competitors in the Army Ranger competition, the team of 1st Lt. Kevin Moore and 1st Lt. Griff Hokanson reigned supreme:

NBC News reached out to Army spokesmen to ask if they would be acknowledging First Lt. Gabrielle White as the first-ever female competitor and the first African American female to compete and finish the competition.

They received no indication that the Army intends to acknowledge her so I think it’s up to everyone else, regardless of political affiliation, to celebrate our soldiers for making history. As well as congratulating every single one of the competitors who made it through the 3 days of grueling competition.
