KAILYN Lowry has finally revealed the full story about her son, Rio.
The Teen Mom star shared her experience during her pregnancy with her fifth child.

During her podcast, Barely Famous, Kailyn, 31, sat down with her boyfriend, Elijah Scott, 25, to discuss their story.
The couple spent the episode going into full detail about finding out she was pregnant, buying several pregnancy tests, their first ultrasound, and the birthing process.
Kailyn let Elijah tell the first doctor visit because fans wanted to hear it from him: “We went together and we were sitting in the room and you were supposed to be either six or seven weeks because of the little app she was using to track the pregnancy.
“The ultrasound tech came in, did the ultrasound, and didn’t really say nothing she was just quiet and then you kept asking her and was like ‘Is there a heartbeat?’ and she said ‘No, I can’t find one’ and then that’s when you cried all weekend.”
‘LIKE A ROLLERCOASTER’
Kailyn then revealed that she wanted to “cut her tubes out” because she was constantly trying to convince herself that she was finished having kids.
The MTV star said: “We find out we’re pregnant completely unexpectedly and I felt like it was such a whiplash to go from trying to convince myself I was done having kids to boom now I’m pregnant and then hearing there was no heartbeat, it just felt like a rollercoaster, in such a short time.”
At the time of the potential pregnancy news, Kailyn revealed that she and Elijah “didn’t know each other that well” regarding the topic of children.
Kailyn said: “We weren’t planning a baby, we weren’t prepared for a baby like you and I never talked about it. We just didn’t know each other that well, so I was like upset.”
A few days later, Kailyn came to terms if she wasn’t pregnant: “I remember having a conversation with you that was like ‘Okay, this is okay, and if we decide we want to be together and have a child later on, we can make that decision.'”
In the following weeks, they went back for a second ultrasound appointment when they confirmed the doctors found a heartbeat and she was indeed pregnant.
‘DO DADS GRIEVE?’
Kailyn revealed that the tech wasn’t sure why they told her there wasn’t a heartbeat.
The Teen Mom alum then joked: “Imagine like, you weren’t planning a baby, you’re pregnant, can’t find a heartbeat, you’ve grieved, you’ve decided that it’s okay that it’s gonna be fine we can decide to have babies if we want in the future and just kidding you’re actually still pregnant and there actually is a heartbeat.”
Kailyn then asked Elijah what was going through his mind at the time.
She said: “Do dads grieve when there’s a loss? or were you just kind of like ‘This is nature and we’re gonna take what we get?’ Were you relieved when I was maybe not pregnant?”
Elijah didn’t know the answer: “I was just stuck. I didn’t know what to feel.”
SCARY SITUATION
On Instagram, Kailyn shared a few never-before-seen photos of Kailyn in the hospital and holding her newborn son.
“A year later we finally get to tell Rio’s birth story,” she captioned her post.
In October, Kailyn teared up on her podcast due to Elijah not crying after Rio was born.
“I remember being upset that Elijah didn’t cry because Elijah is such a mellow, calm cool, and collected person,” she explained.
After asking him again why he didn’t cry, Elijah said there were too many emotions happening due to their son needing to be rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit, otherwise known as the NICU.
Kailyn labeled the birth as “traumatizing” and said they barely got to see him when he came out – clarifying she only got to hold him for “maybe three seconds.”
The Teen Mom 2 star said there were also roughly six nurses who had “hands” on Rio as he was immediately taken to the NICU.
Breaking down in tears, Kailyn said: “I was so upset. When I tell you that i was beside myself… it was so scary.”
Kailyn also said that due to her “freaking out” that the couple didn’t have any time with Rio, Elijah said he “didn’t have a chance to cry and process” his son being born because she was so upset.
KEEPING QUIET
Kailyn quietly welcomed Rio in November 2022 though she didn’t confirm his birth until October.
She kept the news of the birth away from the public eye.
Kailyn explained her reasoning to People.
“I wanted to be able to tell my own story on my own terms and kind of share what information I wanted to share instead of being within a contractual obligation or storyline,” she said.
She also admitted she wasn’t ready to announce Rio’s birth when she did but felt pressure from the public forced her to spill the news.
“I feel like it was ripped out from under me time and time again,” Kailyn told the publication.
“I kind of feel like my hands are tied. People are announcing it for me and so, at this point, I might as well just talk about it.
“At this point, I can at least try to do it my way.”
