Mariah Carey‘s childhood dream to be opening for Santa Claus during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade has finally come true and she took her 11-year-old twins along for the fun. Monroe and Moroccan danced alongside their famous mom as her dream came to life giving them the opportunity of a lifetime.

Carey performed her holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” towards the end of the parade before Santa’s arrival with her twins enthusiastically dancing behind her. The song was originally released on her 1994 “Merry Christmas” album but has found a second life in the past few years. In 2019, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number one for the first time.

“Now It’s Reaaaallly Time!”

Mariah Carey Has Always Made Music An Important Part Of Her Twins’ Lives

As one might assume, music is very important in Carey‘s life and she makes sure it is in her children’s lives as well. In a recent interview with W Magazine, Carey explains that music is something that’s important in her home. She started the twins on “inspirational music” in the womb.

“Here is the thing: I am always listening to music. When I was pregnant with them, I would put this iPod-like belt thing on so that they could listen to inspirational music and just, like, have different types of relaxing moments or whatever,” she explained. “But once they started listening to their own music, you know, once I allowed the iPad moments to happen, then it became about whatever was going on in a game and certain songs that are more prominently featured in different video games.”

As Monroe and Moroccan got older, they became more exposed to different songs and styles of music, but Carey makes sure her playlists are not forgotten. “They’re not on TikTok yet, but I know they are on it behind my back secretly anyway. So songs are just 15-second snippets for them,” she said. “But I have several different playlists that I play all the time. I try to let them hear some of my favorite artists that they may not have heard or they may never hear if they were just to listen to those snippets.”

Carey makes learning about new music fun for the twins with quizzes asking, “Okay, who’s singing?” “And most of the time, they get it right,” she said. “It’s typically Prince or Stevie Wonder. It’s Aretha Franklin. There’s Chaka Khan. And I’m like, ‘You have to listen to the tone of the voice. Listen to how they’re singing.”
