AN influencer couple has revealed they’re boycotting Father’s Day.
While the pair thought it made sense for them to skip out on the holiday celebrations, critics thought otherwise.
Matt and Abby (@matt_and_abby) shared the controversial take in a viral video.
The podcasters and YouTubers explained that Matt’s birthday is in June, and the holiday tends to fall around the same day.
The previous year, Father’s Day and Matt’s birthday were the same day, forcing the two to celebrate the two events at the same time.
Abby combined the holidays because she was pregnant, and the two had just returned from their “Babymoon” to celebrate her pregnancy.
Matt thought the combination of the two events was a “bummer.”
Despite feeling like she’d “failed” him, Abby said she still made the effort to get Matt a DQ birthday cake and had a grill party with their family present.
Matt added that he had grilled during the event but was fine with it, as he knew other fathers who manned the grill for their families during their birthdays.
This year, the two plan to boycott the holiday in June and celebrate it three months after Matt’s birthday instead.
While the two thought their plan was a great idea, others criticized the influencers.
Kristi (@spillsesh_yt) shared her reaction to the clip, garnering hundreds of responses.
Many felt that Matt’s reaction was “insane,” and some were disturbed that the couple kept interrupting each other to speak.
“It always feels like we are intruding in a major fight,” said one commenter.
“The constant interrupting each other,” said another.
“The patience this woman has,” said a third.
Others didn’t think having a birthday coincide with another event was a big deal.
“He’s such a baby, omg,” said one commenter.
“My birthday is Christmas… like he is so wild,” agreed another.
“Is he mad at her that his birthday had Father’s Day land on it? Is that her fault?” asked one confused viewer.
Oliver (@olivergdixon) shared his reaction to the clip, once again gathering mixed responses from viewers.
“We decided as a family = Matt threw a fit about it,” concluded one commenter.
“He’s such a toddler,” said another.
“My son is 5, and his birthday is June 18th,” said a third.
“He WILL be raised to not treat his wife like this.”
One commenter felt that Matt needed to do some serious self-reflection.
“Growing up and maturing is realizing that the holiday isn’t always about the ‘actual day’ but about spending time with the people in your life,” they said.
