Marge Simpson is going to like this: Cypress Hill have announced that their one-night-only performance with the London Symphony Orchestra from last summer will be released as a concert film and live album.
Titled Cypress Hill and the London Symphony Orchestra: Black Sunday Live at the Royal Albert Hall, the upcoming releases will allow fans to enjoy the hip-hop group’s live collaboration with the orchestra, which saw them reimagine their seminal 1993 release, Black Sunday, and other hits in symphonic style.
The film will be screened in US and Canadian theaters on March 30th and 31st, and in the US only on April 2nd. Information regarding tickets can be found here.
As for the album, it will arrive on June 6th via Mercury. Alongside the announcement, Cypress Hill have issued the first single, a rendition of “Illusions.” Watch the accompanying music video below.
Speaking about working with the London Symphony Orchestra, Cypress Hill’s B-Real said, “It’s a trip to see that hip hop can be done in this form — and at a venue as prestigious as the Royal Albert Hall. It was truly an honor and a privilege, and now that experience can be shared.”
Echoing his sentiment, Sen Dog added, “It was amazing to take this journey with the people of London who supported Cypress Hill from day one.”
The orchestral touches and flourishes on Black Sunday Live at the Royal Albert Hall were added by conductor Troy Miller, who said, “I’ve always been excited by the idea of merging genres, and to do it with the most prolific hip hop group of all time and the most exquisite symphony orchestra in the world was an honor! The band gave me free rein on the arrangements and we made something truly unique and mesmerizing — what a sublime collaboration!”
Of course, the concert was at east partially inspired by a 1996 episode of The Simpsons, titled “Homerpalooza,” in which Cypress Hill accidentally booked the London Symphony Orchestra.
