Three Days Grace’s Adam Gontier Returns on Single “Mayday”

Three Days Grace have released the new song and video “Mayday,” the Canadian rock band’s first track since reuniting with original singer Adam Gontier.

The single features vocals from both Gontier and Matt Walst, the singer who replaced Gontier upon his exit from the band in 2013. As previously reported, Walst will stay on to co-front Three Days Grace.

The song starts with a bass line reminiscent of the band’s monster 2006 hit “Animal I Have Become” (one of Consequence’s 50 Best Post-Grunge Songs of All Time), along with a screamed vocal intro. The track then settles into a more alt-rock vibe with clean-sung verses and a melodic chorus before leading into a heavier breakdown at the 2:10 mark.

The track was produced by Zakk Cervini and Dan Lancaster with vocal production by Howard Benson. An accompanying music video, directed by CiRCUS HEaD, finds Gontier and Walst co-piloting an airplane that’s experiencing some major turbulence.

“This song is a reflection of the current state of the world, an unsettling mix of disillusionment, exhaustion, and denial,” the band stated in a press release. “The sense that we’re all on the brink — emotionally, socially, and environmentally, yet we refuse to admit defeat. So even though we feel like we are barely surviving we keep on moving forward, one foot in front of the other.”

The highly anticipated track follows the October announcement that Three Days Grace, with Gontier in tow, will be supporting Disturbed’s 2025 North American tour. That outing kicks off on February 25th (get tickets here).

Meanwhile, Three Days Grace are also playing a handful of major US rock festivals in 2025, including Sick New World, Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville, and Inkcarceration.
