Crossfade are reuniting, ending a lengthy hiatus to play their first shows since 2012.
The Columbia, South Carolina-based band will make its return to the stage on May 10th at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio (get tickets here). The post-grunge outfit has also been booked for the Inkcarceration festival on the weekend of July 18th in Mansfield, Ohio.
“We are so grateful to the band for coming together with us to finally make this a special reality in 2025!” shared the Sonic Temple official Instagram account.
Best known for their 2004 hit “Cold,” Crossfade garnered commercial success during the nu-metal/post-grunge explosion of the early 2000s, though the band had existed under different names since 1991.
Under the Crossfade moniker, they released three studio albums between 2004 and 2011 before taking an extended break in 2012 after a studio fire destroyed their gear, merch, and the songs they had been recording.
Bassist Mitch James recalled the circumstances surrounding the studio fire in a new YouTube documentary from Rock Feed about Crossfade’s reunion.
“We were home after a tour that did not go quite as well as we hoped,” James said. “Les had a bachelor party, which we all attended. After the bachelor party and many drinks, we all went back to the studio, which is a very large space, and just hung out. I ended up leaving to go home, and several of the guys fell asleep there.”
He continued: “A heater caught on fire — burned our entire studio to the ground. Twenty-five years worth of equipment, songs, computers, pictures, merch, everything. That was a quick way to say, ‘Well, I guess we’re done for a while.’”
Frontman Ed Sloan worked on solo material in the intervening years, but the band hasn’t played a show together for over a decade.
“It feels like we’re just starting brand new,” Sloan said in the documentary. “Almost like it was back in 1997 when we didn’t have a record, didn’t have a record label, we weren’t playing shows — and that’s where we find ourselves right now.”
