A MUM has defended her baby’s unusual name after people said she had named her son after a cat.
Jasmine Chiswell shared her child’s name via a video posted to her TikTok channel @jasminechiswell where she often shares insights into motherhoods and family life as well as videos show how makeup and beauty trends have changed over the last 100 years.
The name the TikToker chose for her son is Midnight, a word most commonly associated with a time of day.
Not everyone was a fan of the name with one TikTok user commenting under one of Jasmine’s videos: “Disrespectfully, Midnight is a horrible name for a kid”.
In response to this comment, the influencer, who boasts over 16 million followers made a video reply, with the caption: “At this point, you’re bullying an 11 month old baby”.
In the video, Jasmine, who is known for her resemblance to Marilyn Monroe made a tiny violin with her hands and played it, showing she does not care what people think of her name.
In a Youtube video, Jasmine explained that she chose to name her child Midnight as her husband is called Maverick, which wasn’t considered to be a name when he was born, but is now more accepted.
Unusual names have become more common in recent years, especially with celebrities choosing more unique monikers for their offspring, such as Molly Mae Hague’s daughter Bambi and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin‘s child Apple.
TikTok users flocked to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts on the baby’s name, with many suggesting it sounds like something you would name a pet.
One user said: “I had a cat named Midnight, we called her Middy!”
A second user added: “It’s a good name for a cat or a nickname or maybe middle name.”
Another user added: “I mean it’s cool and all but how will he get a serious job later in life with that name?”
However, some people expressed their love for the name, with one user stating: “It’s so unique and gothic sounding”.
Another user added: “Midnight is an awesome name”.
