Rich Homie Quan’s name was brought up during Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial on Tuesday, September 3, just two days before the rapper’s sudden death.
When star witness YSL Woody, whose real name is Kenneth Copeland, took the stand, the prosecution asked him if Young Thug, 33, had a problem with Rich Homie Quan, 33, “bringing members of his gang to his apartment.”
The question prompted YSL Woody to ask Young Thug directly: “Thug, did you have an issue with Rich Homie?” The incarcerated rapper appeared taken aback by the interrogation and laughed off the question as the prosecution redirected the inquiry to YSL Woody.
Rich Homie Quan — born Dequantes Lamar — and Young Thug had previously joined forces on the Cash Money Records project “Rich Gang.”
ThuggerDaily, who has been giving a play-by-play of the trial, posted the courtroom moment on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Rich Homie Quan died on Thursday, September 5, The Post confirmed with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The rapper reportedly passed away in his Atlanta home, according to TMZ, who spoke with his family.
The cause of Rich Homie Quan’s death has not been confirmed; however, fellow rapper Boosie Badazz, 41, claimed the late rapper overdosed.
“JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST OD ‼️JUST TALK TO WUAN THE OTHER DAY,” Boosie posted on X.
“On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar,” the coroner’s office said in a statement. “An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, 6 September 2024.”
Boosie continued to post about his grief on social media.
“JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA,” he wrote. “Never go forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music.”
Boosie also claimed the two had been “cooking up” a new project together.

Rich Homie Quan’s family told TMZ that they were shattered and heartbroken over his sudden passing.
The rapper catapulted into fame and the mainstream hip-hop scene in 2013 with “Type of Way,” which landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
He was also known for his 2015 hits “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Ride Out.”
Rich Homie Quan regularly collaborated with Atlanta-based artists like 2 Chainz and Jacquees. He spoke about his success with “Type of Way” and revealed his hopes of building an empire way back in 2013.
“Everything starts somewhere,” he told Billboard at the time. “I’m pretty sure when Cash Money first started off, they didn’t think it would get as big as it is today. I just want something that can last forever.”
